Moses Armstrong, an actor in Nollywood, has been accused of rape, intimidation, conspiracy, and furnishing medicines or equipment to cause an abortion. These charges stem from an alleged incident in which Armstrong was involved.
Armstrong, a former adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel, was arrested a month ago on allegations that he had raped a child he had taken in as a foster child.
According to Premium Times, the four accusations were read to Armstrong before a State High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Wednesday, August 10.
According to reports, he entered a not guilty plea to the charges and requested and was granted bail.
His attorney, Emmanuel Pantaleon, called the court’s attention to the bail application that he had submitted on behalf of his client on July 25, and he asked for the court’s permission to move forward and entertain the application.
While arguing against the bail application, an assistant state counsel for the prosecution named I.U. Robert highlighted pertinent judicial sources and asked the court to reject the bail application, which he described as a “abuse of court process.” The application was opposed by the prosecution.
After hearing arguments from both sides of the case, Judge Ntong Ntong upheld the motion made by Mr. Armstrong’s defense counsel and granted him bail in the amount of N5 million.
