Early life and education
Peter Phillips was born in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, United Kingdom, on November 15, 1977, at 10:46 in the morning. Princess Anne and Mark Phillips had been married in 1973 and were expecting their first child together. He was their first kid. A 41-gun salute was fired from the Tower of London at the moment of his birth in honor of his birth. Christening took place at the Music Room of Buckingham Palace on the 22nd of December, 1977, and was presided over by Archbishop Donald Coggan of Canterbury. His maternal uncle, the Prince of Wales, as well as Geoffrey Tiarks, Captain Hamish Lochore, Lady Cecil Cameron of Lochiel, and Jane Holderness-Roddam, were his godparents. Other godparents included the Prince of Wales.
At the time of his birth, Phillips occupied the fifth position in the line of succession to the throne, a position he held until the birth of his cousin, Prince William, in 1982. It is reported that his parents turned down proposals made by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, that would have allowed him to be born into a peerage. Phillips was the first genuine grandchild of a monarch to be born without a title or courtesy title in more than 500 years, making him the first person to ever do so. Zara Tindall (née Phillips; born 1981) is Phillips’ younger sister. He also has two younger half-sisters: Felicity Wade (née Tonkin; born 1985), the daughter of Mark Phillips and his ex-mistress Heather Tonkin; and Stephanie Phillips (born 1997), the daughter from his father’s second marriage to Sandy Pflueger. Zara Tindall is the daughter of Mark Phillips and his former mistress Heather Tonkin.
Before joining other members of his family at Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland, Phillips received his early education at Port Regis Prep School in Shaftesbury, which is located in the county of Dorset. While he was attending Gordonstoun, he was selected to serve as the head boy. During his gap year, he traveled to Sydney and worked for Sports Entertainment Limited (SEL), a company that he would later return to work for. During that time, he also worked for Jackie Stewart’s Formula One racing team.
He earned a degree in sports science from the University of Exeter, where he studied for his whole academic career. He was a member of the Rugby League team representing Exeter University.
After receiving his degree in the year 2000, Phillips went on to work for Jaguar in the capacity of corporate hospitality manager and subsequently for the Williams racing team in the capacity of sponsorship accounts manager. Both positions were held simultaneously. When Phillips and three other Williams employees were traveling through China in 2004 in a van, they were involved in an accident in which the vehicle was hit by a car. Phillips did not sustain any injuries. In September of 2005, he parted ways with Williams in order to take a position as a manager at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh. He parted ways with RBS in March 2012 in order to accept a position as managing director at SEL UK.
He was the guest of honor for the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium in August 2012, which was played between the Warrington Wolves and the Leeds Rhinos.
Phillips was in charge of organizing the “Patron’s Lunch” for the celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday that took place in the year running up to June 2016, when the event took place. It featured a picnic with hampers for 10,000 people in addition to a march that went down The Mall.
Phillips made an appearance in an advertising for the Chinese brand Bright Food in the month of January 2020. In the video, he promotes the company’s milk by implying that he is a member of the British royal family, despite the fact that he is not.
